報告摘要:

Syntheses and functions of novel stimuli-responsivematerials are discussed, following the brief introduction of other works achievedso far in supramolecular, organic, and polymer chemistry fields in ourlaboratory.

One of the most fascinating functions ofpolymers seems dynamic function caused by hierarchically changeable polymers asstimuli-responsive polymers which enable to enhance small structural change tobulk property change. In particular, we would like to emphasize stimulus-inducedtransformation of polymer topology as potential function rising in new era ofpolymer science, since polymer property largely depends on the polymer topology. In the present talk, we discuss mainly on the polymer topology change fromlinear to cyclic or from linear to star shape along with the accompanyingproperty change. These topology changes are driven by rotaxane molecular andmacromolecular switches, i.e. mostreliable switch systems, where simple chemical reaction causes small partialpolymer structural change which is gradually amplified topolymer shape or topology change, polymer assembly or morphology change, andfinally polymer property change. From view point of practical use, we may alsodiscuss on the development of polymer materials extraordinarily toughened bycross-linking with rotaxane cross-linkers which prove mobility of polymerchains at the cross-link points.

Prof. Toshikazu TAKATA

Toshikazu Takata is a professor of chemistry of Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech). He was born in 1953 in Toyama Prefecture, Japan.  He graduated Okayama University and received his Ph.D. from Tsukuba University (1981) under the supervision of the late Professor Shigeru Oae. He moved to Tokyo Tech as an assistant professor in 1985 after spending for a few years as a research associate at Tsukuba University, Department of Chemistry. He promoted to a full professor of Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in 1994, after serving as an associate professor of Tokyo Tech from 1988. He moved to Osaka Prefecture University in 1995 and then Tokyo Tech in 2003.

He has received many awards and prizes such as The Chemical Society of Japan Award (2016), Molecular Chirality Award (2013), The Environment Award (Excellent)-The Award of Minister of Environment (2012), The CSJ Award for Technical Development (2011), The Commendation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (2010), The Award of the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan (2009), The Award of the Society of Polymer Science, Japan (2005), and so on.

Now he is the president of the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan, and was the vice president of the Society of Polymer Science, Japan, and has served as the board members of many societies such as the Society of Physical Organic Chemistry, Japan, The Chemical Evaluation and Research Institute, Japan, and The Chemical Society of Japan.

Interest of his research is to develop novel molecules and materials with unique property and function in supramolecular chemistry based on organic and polymer chemistries.

He has published more than 430 original papers, 160 books, book chapters, and reviews, and 170 patents.
